Painterly
A painterly affect in a photograph requires two main components in post production, using a texture to emulate canvas, cloth, or a texture that mimics brushstrokes. Then at least one other textured layer or overlay is given to the image to make it look of something other than a straight photo – something like a painting!
I began my artistic journey as a painter and this medium gives me an infinite palette to work with while exploring my creativity. Painterly photography is like a dance between painting and photography. Sometimes I create images using a collage of several of my photographs and then apply textures until the right look is achieved. It is not only my interpretation of the photographs but a way of transforming photographs onto another way of storytelling.
